NINE: Handcraft Book
“NINE″ handcraft number book, Western Michigan University (2007)
Illustration and Book Design by Yuuya Masada.
This is a book project from a book making course.
The concept was to design a book out of a single 23″ by 35″ printout.
My goal was to make this book interactive and fun, while giving no expression of a very economical use of paper.
The following pages includes more detailed images of the final project.
Each page was patterned to be a character that dissolved into its environments.
I used bright colors because they’re more fun.
The hardest part was to cut and paste everything together!
The rest are some images from the original digital file.
I guess you can say it’s very asian-influenced artwork. I do like pop art.
Ouch! Sorry, I cut you! You blue tofu-thing.
Each page increases in the number of windows. It’s also a counting book!
Which made it all harder to come up with new drawings that show through the windows.
This dino-character inspires my later book project “FOSSIL“. Please check it out, too.
This project was really fun!
I hope to get into more book-making projects in the future.
